Maintenance Trip Report: Serenity & Spiders

Date: March 21, 2026 Status: Site Secure | All Infrastructure Operational

I. Site Observations & “Alien” Encounters

Upon arrival at 8:00 AM, the site was secure and peaceful. Activity was minimal, with the only neighbor being an SUV tending cattle 2,000 feet to the west.

  • Vegetation: Grass growth remains stunted due to the recent 18°F freeze.
  • Wildlife: Discovered six “alien pods” in the Pic Pavilion. A quick consult with Google Lens confirmed these are egg sacs for garden spiders. Hundreds of new “volunteers” will be joining the team soon.
  • Cleanup: Spent the morning clearing board ends and debris piles via controlled burns.

II. Equipment & Grounds Maintenance

The lawn mower is performing like a brand-new machine following last year’s service.

  • Performance: Sharpened the blades (Pro tip: you’ll need the elusive 16mm closed-end wrench), which made the mower smoother, quieter, and significantly more efficient.
  • Operation: Confirmed the electronics are 100% functional. The charging state triggers immediately when plugged in.
  • Grounds: Mowed the broomsedge grass within the fenced area and the perimeter of the pavilion/pond.
  • Spring Outlook: Unless we commit to weekly electric mowing, we will still need a professional service a few times this season to keep up with the growth.

III. Infrastructure & Improvements

  • Winter Storage: Removed the west door tarp/nails that served as a winter wind break. A fresh 8’x10′ tarp is stored in the attic for next season.
  • The “Beer Couch”: Constructed a new 3-4 person couch.
    • Design Note: Due to the steep back angle, it is ergonomically optimized exclusively for sitting upright and enjoying a beverage by the fire. It is officially useless for napping, shoe-tying, or any other extracurricular activities.
  • Future Project: Investigating the construction of windbreaks behind the pavilion (South side) to better capture heat from the back of the fireplace.

Summary of Day

The pavilion, silo, and shipping container remain in excellent order—rodent-free and clean. After a full day of labor and a quick shower, I headed out at 5:00 PM.

  • Total Stats: 18 hours, 340 miles, and a very productive day for the property.

Note for next time: I’ll be recruiting more aggressively. This property offers a level of peace and serenity that shouldn’t be enjoyed alone!
