Trip report by Kristen Vogel
The trip report: This trip started as Bill Gee’s hydrology trip. We split into two trips due to the number of participants being greater than 8. The purpose of this trip was to monitor biology counts in Upper Thunder.
I arrived at the silo around 8:30am on Saturday. Bill, Marty, Jason and Peter were already there. We discussed the plan and started getting geared up. All 12 people were in the cave by 10:00am. It was starting to really get hot in the silo. Once we were all in the cave, we finalized who was going on each trip, then we headed to Upper Thunder while Bill’s team went to Carroll Passage.
We made our way up to UL2, took a break there, and continued on to the round room. We counted several fish along the way. We stopped at each tile site to look for isopods, and didn’t see a single one. We reached the round room at 1:30 and checked the rescue cache. On our way back, I wasn’t sure if Bill’s team was ahead of us or behind us. Turns out, they had reached UL2 and headed back while we were upstream. We met up with them when we arrived at Thunder Falls. They headed out to the ladder while we went on to see Thunder Falls. We headed out and everyone was out of the cave by 3:15pm.
