Over the last 8 years a dedicated group of cavers has undertaken the task of surveying Carroll Cave under the auspices of the Carroll Cave Conservancy. In August 2002, the CCC completed the backdoor entrance dig project and the survey started the following month. We have now reached a major milestone in the life of the survey – 18.11 miles (95,630.9 feet) of estimated passage length – making Carroll the 2nd longest cave in Missouri and by far the longest cave in the Salem Plateau. The survey of Carroll is far from complete and additional mileage will be added in the coming years, but it is highly unlikely that we will threaten Crevice’s status as the longest cave in MO.
