Gooch Sinkhole is located in Phelps County, Missouri near Spring Creek. Klaus Leidenfrost, MCKC president and wildlife biologist with the U. S. Forest Service was in charge of the project that was completed during September and October 2011.
After the trash was removed from the sinkhole, it was loaded into a dump truck. The dump truck took the load to the top of the hill to the roll-off dumpsters, Then a backhoe loaded the trash into the roll-off dumpsters.
There was 97,220 pounds of trash removed from the sinkhole, including 37 tires. Recycled from the debris was 1,720 pounds of metal.
The Meramec Regional Planning Commission covered all the expenses to clean up Gooch Sinkhole.
